Freddy Krueger thrills thousands at Perth Night Jump
The Perth Night Jump has thrilled thousands of spectators at the Burswood Water Sports Centre.
Conditions earlier today started off with an easterly wind, the right direction for jumpers. The wind died down before the finals and conditions were near perfect. It was a beautiful still night in Perth on the Swan River.
In exciting jump final, Timothy Bradstreet got the crowd excited by jumping an impressive 64.5 metres off a lower ramp of 165cm. The 19yo from Newcastle won Moomba in Melbourne two weeks ago, beating world record holder Freddy Krueger. Tonight however, world champion Krueger showed the crowds why he is number one jumping 65.9 metres on his final attempt to take the title.
“It was fantastic out there, I felt good and it is exciting to jump in front of a big crowd – thank you so much for coming,” Krueger said as he accepted his prize.
In the women’s jump, Natalia Berdnikava from Belarus also demonstrated why she is the world record holder, jumping beautifully tonight and finishing on top with 51.1 metres.
“It was a beautiful night, so nice out there. And I love Perth – it’s my first time here but I think I’ll be back,” Berdnikava said.
